Potter Behind the Wheel:

Owen Nichols

Every piece I make is a unique expression of form and surface. My work combines functionality with artistic exploration, focusing on wheel throwing and thoughtful surface treatments. Through section throwing, I create larger forms that allow me to experiment with shape, line, and gesture—bringing each piece to life rather than simply replicating traditional forms.

Inspired by both geometric and organic shapes, I manipulate clay to add depth and nuance to every creation. My goal is to make each piece feel like an artifact—something that looks as though it was unearthed, naturally shaped by the earth itself. Atmospheric firing techniques, such as salt and soda, play a key role in my process, creating rich textures and patterns that make every surface distinct and visually intriguing.

This fusion of form, texture, and firing transforms ordinary clay into something meaningful. Nichols Ceramics offers pieces that capture the beauty of nature and the artistry of the handmade.
